Une experience Nocturne

Text and concept by Sophie Faucillion

HOUSE OF FLORA INSTALLATION

WINDOW SHOPPING

"A reflection of the current climate of instability and fear,of storm clouds brewing.''

In the hustle and bustle of this past weekend - the last days of the sales - it's unlikely we'd absorb little more than 'final reduction' signs from the windows of central London stores, but cutting through these scenes of retail drudgery is Kabiri Jewellery's current installation of House of Flora designs by Flora McLean.
This is spread across three locations. While Kabiri's Covent Garden store focuses on the graphic millinery for which Flora is best known, their Selfridges concession on new sunglasses and jewellery. The window of their Marylebone store beautifully describes 'Flora's world'. Delicate black type, is juxtaposed with the film 'Dress no. 1', which depicts a new venture for S/S 09: "I'd like to create one dress a season, until I'm 60, at which point I will hold a couture show!".
It is this kind of forethought, which affords Flora's design a timelessness that is important during the current economic climate. " I have to wear a dress every day, this is form and function". With elegant fixtures in heavy duty Perspex, metals, and PVC, Revolutionary imagery is apparent in dress and accessories.
A hard-wearing ammunition inspired belt is encouragement enough to join the style ranks!
